Noah' Ark
Key Events in the Story:
- God’s Judgment & Noah’s Righteousness: God saw the world filled with evil and decided to cleanse it. Noah, however, was a blameless man who walked with God.
- Building the Ark: God instructed Noah to build a large boat (ark) of gopher wood, specifying its design with rooms and pitch. Noah obeyed, facing mockery from his unbelieving neighbors.
- Gathering Animals: Noah was commanded to bring his wife, his three sons (Shem, Ham, Japheth) and their wives, seven pairs of clean animals, and one pair of every other creature into the ark.
- The Great Flood: After Noah and the animals entered, God shut the ark, and rain fell for 40 days and nights, while “the springs of the great deep burst forth,” flooding the entire earth.
- After the Flood: The ark rested on the mountains of Ararat, and after sending out a raven and then doves, Noah discovered dry land.
- Covenant & Rainbow: Upon leaving the ark, Noah built an altar, and God promised to never again destroy all life with a flood, placing a rainbow in the sky as a sign of this covenant.
- Repopulating the Earth: God commanded Noah and his family to “be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth”.
